About Project

Degasification Methane Use on SC "Komsomolets Mine"

Key goal: The use of methane captured by degasification facilities on SC "Komsomolets Mine". Project implementation is done within the framework of UNDP\GEF RUS/03/G31 Project "Russian Federation - Removing Barriers to Coal Mine Methane Recovery and Utilization" and is targeted on demonstration of CMM utilization at coal mines of Kuznetsk coal basin.

Project description: On the coal field of SC " Komsomolets mine" a mobile vacuum pump station (PPDU) is installed on the surface to pump methane via the degas well drilled into the gob area. To use the degas methane the vacuum pump station will undergo improvements. The project envisages thermal power generation by means of degas methane combustion in a modular boiler station (MBS) aimed for placement next to PPDU.

Project status (level of accomplishment): Business Plan, Feasibility Study, Recommendations into Degas System Project at " Komsimolets Mine" with the main purpose of degas methane utilization have been developed. Carbon Documentation, including PIN and PDD format documents have been elaborated too. Presently Feasibility Study undergoes the stage of reconciliation.

The use of degasification methane on SC " S.M. Kirov Mine"

Key goal: The use of a gas generator unit fueled by degas methane for electrical power generation. Project is being implemented within the frameworks of UNDP\GEF RUS/03/G31 Project "Russian Federation - Removing Barriers to Coal Mine Methane Recovery and Utilization" and is targeted on demonstration of CMM utilization at coal mines of Kuznetsk coal basin.

Project description: NPO "Uglemetan" currently develops a demo project to demonstrate opportunities for degas methane use at SC " S.M. Kirov Mine". Mining and geological conditions of this mine allows for a gas generator station installation, comprising seven gas generator units of 1.021 MW electrical power capacity each to produce mine's own electricity. электроэнергии. A vacuum pump station operates at 120m3/min rate, producing 60-80% methane concentration mixture, which is delivered via underground pipeline system from degas wells drilled into gob area and rider coal seams.

The main methane resource is the underground degasification pipeline system of nearly 4 km length, which is connected to degasification facilities. The system is placed at the depth of 250-360 meters and includes two subsystems with boreholes drilled tangentially into the massif stress zone away from dome, resultant from a longwall mining and boreholes drilled into operating longwall in advance of mining work.

Project status (level of accomplishment): Business Plan "The Use of Degas Methane at SC "S.M. Kirov Mine" and PIN Document (Project Idea Note) have been developed. The project's assessed annual methane emission reductions will make nearly 180 thousand tones of CO2eq. Presently the Business Plan undergoes consideration by mine's owners and management personnel.
